Anthony Martial is training alone at Manchester United with his contract set to expire in the summer…

Erik Ten Hag has already shown his ruthless streak this season, exiling Jadon Sancho before sanctioning the England winger's loan return to Borussia Dortmund earlier this month.

Sancho had publicly disagreed with Ten Hag's assertion that the player hadn't trained well, and has now left the country rather than apologise to his manager.

And now Martial is enduring some, if not all, of the same treatment.

"Anthony Martial has been told to train on his own to improve his fitness before Erik Ten Hag will consider picking him for Manchester United," reports The Daily Mail's Matt Hughes.

"…Martial has not trained with his team-mates since picking up a sickness bug last month, which has prevented the Frenchman from playing since United's 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth on 9 December."

Martial's future?

There has been no public fall-out between Ten Hag and Martial - indeed, the manager has been pretty tight-lipped about Martial's progress, or lack thereof.

But his future would also appear to be beyond Old Trafford.

Martial was farmed out on loan to Sevilla for the second half of last season, and has only mustered two goals and two assists from his 19 appearances in all competitions since.

A €60 million arrival from Monaco in 2015, Sancho is now valued at just €12.8m by FootballTransfers' in-house algorithm.

United have a club option to extend his contract by another year at the end of the season, thus driving up his value, theoretically, but new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe might be happy to cut losses on a player earning £250,000 a week.

Martial has reportedly rejected offers from Marseille, Fenerbahce and the Saudi Pro League in recent months, but looks like he will be forced into a move next summer.
