Brobbey ends Man Utd speculation with emphatic Ten Hag message
Ajax striker Brian Brobbey has stated that he will not be leaving the club to join Manchester United this month, despite rumoured interest from the Premier League giants.
Brobbey, 21, was linked with a move to Old Trafford when Erik ten Hag was appointed in 2022, but a move never materialised and the Red Devils ended up signing Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta last summer instead.
However, Brobbey has once again emerged as a reported Man Utd target in recent days, according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg.
He posted on X: “News #Brobbey: Understand that Ten Hag has the idea to sign Brobbey in winter! Brobbey and ManUtd, it was a hot topic last summer. The contact never broke off. Both have a high appreciation for each other.
At the latest in the next summer window, a transfer will be a topic again if Ten Hag stays as the coach. Ajax doesn't want to sell him now. Contract until 2027. Brobbey and [Joshua] Zirkzee, on the list.”
Despite this, Brobbey himself has denied any links with a move to Old Trafford during the January transfer window.
What has Brian Brobbey said regarding a possible Man Utd transfer?
“I am not in contact with Erik ten Hag anymore,” Brobbey told Voetbal International, as per The Mirror. “We used to text through Whatsapp, but I think Erik is busy.
“I have a new number as well, so... I know nothing about any interest from Manchester United. I read it on the news, but I am staying in Amsterdam,” he concluded.
Brobbey has scored 13 goals and provided four assists in 23 games across the Eredivisie and the Europa League so far this season, and has been a rare shining light in a poor campaign for Ajax.
The Dutchman has three-and-a-half years left on his current deal in Amsterdam, while his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at €17.9 million.
