Revealed: When Erik ten Hag will be sacked
Roy Keane says that Erik ten Hag will be sacked “in the next few months”.
The legendary former midfielder believes that it is a guarantee the Dutchman will be out of the door before the end of the 2023-24 season.
Keane was speaking after United’s 2-0 win at Wigan in the FA Cup third round on Monday.
What did Keane say?
“The manager there mentions the ‘project’ – it probably means he’ll be gone in the next few months,” Keane said.
“This dreaded word ‘project’. No, I didn’t see it tonight with United and I’ve not seen it for the last few months.
“But, again, they’re in the next round and it’s an easy draw the next time round, but you need a better level of performance. And the chances they made tonight, you always expect more.”
Ten Hag is very much at risk of the sack at Man Utd after overseeing the club’s worst start to a season in over 30 years.
United are down in eighth place in the Premier League and have already been eliminated from Europe and the League Cup.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s purchase of a minority stake in the club - and with it control over footballing matters - has put Ten Hag’s position even more at risk.
Ratcliffe’s new position will officially be ratified in the next weeks, at which point he can start making decisions in the transfer market and among the coaching staff.
It is widely expected that Ten Hag will be relieved of his position and a new manager brought in.
The main question is when that decision will be made, during the current season or at the end of the campaign.
Keane believes Ten Hag will be axed before the season is over.
United’s next match is against Tottenham at Old Trafford on Sunday in a must-win Premier League game.
