Done deal! Sancho leaves Man Utd for Dortmund

Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho’s loan move back to Borussia Dortmund is now a formality, according to reports in Germany.
Sancho has long been linked with a switch back to BVB after falling out of favour with Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag in September.
The 23-year-old England winger has not featured for the Old Trafford club since then, with all parties seeking to resolve a situation that had hit an embarrassing impasse for both.
The player’s high wages threatened to derail any January loan, but Man Utd have backed down and will allow Sancho to return to Dortmund, the club he left in 2021 for a transfer fee of €85 million.
Bild reports that the outcome of the Sancho talks have been positive, with the attacker expected to hook up with his new colleagues for a training camp in Marbella, Spain as early as Friday.

Why Dortmund completed Sancho U-turn
Dortmund were initially dismissive of Sancho returning to the club, largely due to the huge wages that he commands at Man Utd.
The Athletic reports that the deal, which will cost Dortmund only “€3 million all-in”, is being massively subsidised by the Old Trafford side, who simply want him off their books. That figure will not even cover Sancho’s wages over that period, indicating just how desperate Man Utd were to move the player on.
Furthermore, Dortmund calculate that if Sancho makes the difference in the Champions League last-16 tie against PSV, he will have already paid that loan fee back.
A full-time return to BVB from Man Utd appears unlikely, due to his salary demands and what the Premier League club would demand as a transfer fee, yet having struck up a strong bond with head coach Edin Terzic in his previous stint at the club, there is a sense they can profit richly from him in the next six months.
