Rangnick blasts Man Utd over Sancho treatment
Former Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has insisted that Jadon Sancho never had any disciplinary problems during his time at the club.
Sancho has finally departed Old Trafford, albeit only temporarily, and rejoined former club Borussia Dortmund on a six-month loan. A permanent departure was neither an option to Sancho, who believes that he can outlive coach Erik ten Hag at Man Utd, nor to the Red Devils, who are well aware that his value is at an all-time low.
The 23-year-old has not played a competitive game of football since essentially calling Ten Hag a liar on social media in September. In the aftermath, speculation about Sancho's alleged disciplinary issues began abounding, with former Man Utd and Chelsea player Nemanja Matic claiming that the winger and ex-Red Devil Paul Pogba frequently arrived late to training.
However, former interim Man Utd manager Ralf Rangnick has struck a different tone when discussing Sancho, asserting that he never had any problems with him during his short time at the club.
What did Rangnick say?
Rangnick was asked to give his thoughts on Sancho's situation by Sky Germany. The Austria men's national team boss spoke highly of the Dortmund man but emphasised that the "overall situation" at Man Utd made him lose his smile.
"He had his best time in Dortmund and, when he was healthy, he always played for me," Rangnick said. "However, he wasn't as carefree as in Dortmund. But that was also due to the overall situation. When he was fit, he was a starter and did well under me."
"He no longer had a chance in Manchester. He now has to get back into a rhythm and really into shape in Dortmund. From his point of view, the move makes perfect sense. In the six months I had him, there wasn't a single discipline problem. On the contrary. He is a calm and pleasant guy."
