Manchester United are keen on beating Barcelona and Eintracht Frankfurt to the signing of Lucas Bergvall, according to a report.

The Swedish wonderkid has quickly become one of Europe's most sought-after talents, having impressed for Djurgardens in the 2023 Allsvenskan season. His performances in midfield have shown shades of none other than Barcelona's Pedri and, unsurprisingly, with the real Pedri's body seemingly broken, the Blaugrana have been courting the Swede for months.

However, only recently have the Catalans managed to achieve a breakthrough. The cash-strapped LaLiga giants were previously unable to match Djurgardens' €15 million valuation, but recent reports in Spain have suggested that the deal is on track.

The idea would be to sign the youngster now but let him remain with his Swedish side until the summer, according to Fabrizio Romano. Eintracht Frankfurt have also been heavily courting the midfielder, but he apparently prefers a switch to Spain over Germany.

Now it seems, however, that yet another club has entered the race to sign him.

Man Utd plot hijack

According to 90min, Man Utd are keen to spoil Barcelona's party and swoop for Bergvall. It is asserted that the Red Devils "plan to hold talks with Djurgardens IF over a potential deal."

What could work in favour of Erik ten Hag's side is the fact that Bergvall is said to be a fan of the club and already previously had a training trial with the Manchester giants.

It has recently been claimed that Djurgardens' stance on selling Bergvall has significantly softened and that the 17-year-old talent could be had for just €8m to €10m now instead of the original €15m, though whether Man Utd can pursue a deal remains to be seen as they are hamstrung by Financial Fair Play concerns.
