Man Utd tipped to 'step up' interest in key Arsenal target
Manchester United have been tipped to “step up” their interest in Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi, who is also wanted by fellow Premier League giants Arsenal.
The Spanish midfielder has been linked with a move to the English top flight for several months and Mikel Arteta’s side were rumoured to be leading the race to sign him.
However, Erik ten Hag is not yet satisfied with his current options in the middle of the park and Man Utd are now keen on landing Zubimendi too.
Everton’s Amadou Onana is also a target for the Red Devils, as reported by FootballTransfers, as they look to sign a long-term replacement for the ageing Casemiro.
Although Arsenal appear to be the frontrunners in the pursuit of Zubimendi, Man Utd are set to throw their name into contention in 2024.
What has been said about Man Utd’s pursuit of Martin Zubimendi
Transfer journalist Dean Jones recently provided an update on Man Utd’s transfer plans and stated that Real Sociedad midfielder Zubimendi remains on their wish-list.
“There's not really any part of the squad that is not under examination right now as they look towards the summer,” Jones told GiveMeSport.
“The one we've probably read the most about and heard the most about is the centre back and they will bring in at least one centre back, that will be true. But then also the centre of their midfield will change.
“They have got a few names already. Four or five names, to be honest, that they're continuing to explore for the midfield.
“I think that they'll also get involved in conversations around players like Zubimendi, who they have a level of interest in. I think they might even step that up as we get through the season.
“And then, of course, the attack. They're certainly looking for a player to come in there, probably a wide player of serious substance.”
Zubimendi has four goals and one assist in 29 appearances this season, while his current Sociedad contract runs until 2027.
