The wingers Newcastle should target in January - including Bardghji and Summerville
Newcastle have endured a poor campaign so far. It hasn’t been dreadful by any measure, while there are of course factors such as injuries and fixture congestion that they have had to contend with.
But the Magpies are some distance off a European spot, while they are out of the Champions League and League Cup already/ What’s patently clear is just how well Eddie Howe did last season with the group of players on his side. Their defence has been extremely short, but even going forward, issues are piling up. In particular, the right-hand side of the attack.
Miguel Almiron, regardless of how useful he can be on his day, is arguably not good enough to consistently create opportunities and score goals. Howe must be kicking himself for not pushing for Newcastle to buy someone like Moussa Diaby on that side, with the Frenchman flourishing for Aston Villa this season.
FootballTramsfers has looked through SciSports and sourced a list of some of the possible buys that the North-East club could make this year to bolster that position.
Crysencio Summerville
FootballTransfers revealed that Newcastle are keeping an eye on Summerville, with scouts watching his games this season in the Championship
The Dutchman is flourishing at Leeds this season, so much so he has even prompted interest from Liverpool. The release clause of £20.5million is no longer active in his contract and any fee will no doubt vary heavily on whether the Whites earn promotion this season. Right now, that’s on a knife edge.
Yeremy Pino
Yeremy Pino has been dazzling La Liga with bursts of excellence over the past few seasons. Agile, dynamic, and possessing a footspeed that mirrors his quick-thinking mind, the 21-year-old has made a name for himself.
It was Unai Emery who coached the youngster to become this dangerous winger - but since the Spaniard has left, Pino has struggled for goals and assists, while he is out injured at the moment after a severe injury. There is still a player there but he needs to find form away from Villarreal, but most likely in the summer. Perhaps Howe can be the man to do just that.
Daan Rots
Daan Rots is the starting right-winger for Twente - and he is going from strength to strength. This season, the 22-year-old has already notched 11 goal contributions in 17 matches across all competitions.
Naturally, interest has been drummed up. In the summer of 2022, he was linked to Leeds, but he rejected the chance to move. Interestingly, though, it’s believed he commented: “One day I will be in the Premier League”, to team-mates on the training ground at the time.
Viktor Tsygankov
Viktor Tsygankov has been instrumental in Girona’s absurd campaign. The left-footed winger has been one of the standout performers for the Spanish side who currently sits second in the La Liga table. The Ukrainian already has links to the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich, but Newcastle should be looking at this talented 26-year-old as well. He joined Girona after a glittering spell at Dynamo Kyiv, where he scored a total of 94 goals across 236 matches.
His contract is up in 2027 and there is no doubt that, after this season, he will be open to offers from elite clubs or those in the Premier League.
Johan Bakayoko
Johan Bakayoko has been linked to almost every top-six Premier League club this year. The 20-year-old is one of the highly-rated wingers playing in the Eredivisie today. In fact, this season in the league, he has provided eight assists in 16 games, along with three goals for good measure.
Given the level of interest, it may take a substantial fee to secure his signature, while the PSV Eindhoven star may be more allured by the prospect of playing in the Champions League.
Roony Bardghji
Roony Bardghji is someone very likely to leave Copenhagen this year. He created a buzz over two years ago and has continued to showcase his obscene talent. This is an out-and-out wonderkid.
He was recently signed by CAA Base, England’s biggest agency firm, and so will no doubt be offered the clubs there. Chelsea have been linked before and Bardghji fits the bill in terms of their philosophy. But Newcastle, too, are very keen on lapping up all of the best young players in the world today. It would take a mighty push from Newcastle, but the 18-year-old is an extremely viable option.
Takefusa Kubo
Takefusa Kubo is another winger from La Liga who would mark a sensible choice for Newcastle. Man City and Arsenal have each been linked to the 22-year-old for the past few windows, but nothing materialised.
Playing for Real Sociedad, it would take a sizable offer to prise the Japan international from Spain, but his volume of goal contributions just can’t be ignored.
