Werner’s Premier League return ‘RED HOT’ as unexpected club swoop
Former Chelsea striker Timo Werner is close to completing a shock return to the Premier League from RB Leipzig.
Werner had been closely linked with a move to Manchester United on loan, but according to Sky Sports Deutschland the Germany international is instead poised to join Tottenham on a six-month loan deal.
Meanwhile, Man Utd are closing in on a deal to sign Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting, who has reportedly agreed to join the Old Trafford club from Bayern Munich on a temporary basis.
Werner poised for Tottenham transfer
Werner’s move to Tottenham comes out of the blue but is reportedly “very hot”. Previously, it had looked like Man Utd would be his destination if he returned to England.
Florian Plettenberg reports on X, formerly known as Twitter: “RB Leipzig and Tottenham in final negotiations today. More details to be clarified.”
Werner, 27, is reportedly poised to leave his side’s training camp and is waiting for minor details over the loan agreement to be solved. The option to buy is among the issues that still need to be clarified.
Tottenham did not sign a like-for-like replacement for Harry Kane after he was sold to Bayern Munich for €95 million this summer, and this is the role that Werner will fulfil in Ange Postecoglou’s squad.
The RB Leipzig forward has struggled for game time this season, featuring only eight times in the Bundesliga this season and managing only two goals in that time. He has struggled due to injuries and a lack of form.

Werner’s arrival at Tottenham will allow Son Heung-min to feature on the left wing and offer Richarlison support through the middle of the attack.
Spurs will hope that the player’s familiarity with the city helps him settle and rediscover his best form, though he failed to hit the heights at Chelsea, scoring 23 goals in 89 outings for the Blues during his two-season stint at Stamford Bridge.
