Tomiyasu has been away with Japan at the Asian Cup at present, but after the 2-1 quarter-final loss to Iran, he has committed his future to the Emirates Stadium side.

The 25-year-old has played 20 times for Mikel Arteta’s side this season, including on 10 occasions as a substitute, scoring one goal and generating three assists.

He has become a favourite of the manager and the fans because of his attitude as well as his versatility, which has seen him play across the backline this term for club and country.

And now the former Bologna player is ready to commit his peak years to Arsenal.

Romano exclusively announced via X: “Takehiro Tomiyasu’s new deal at Arsenal, agreed and sealed. Japanese defender set to sign new long-term contract at the club.

“Decision wanted by both board and Arteta as there was never any chance for Tomiyasu to leave in January.

“Announcement to follow soon.”

Tomiyasu, who signed for Arsenal in 2021 for €18.6 million, has an Estimated Transfer Value of €15.9m, yet this figure will bounce significantly upon his contract being made official. At present, his ETV is dragged down by a deal with less than 18 months left on it.

Cedric Soares and Mohamed Elneny are the Arsenal players out of contract in the summer and destined to become free agents, while Thomas Partey is the last remaining member of the first-team squad with a deal up in 2025.

Tomiyasu with a big role to play

Tomiyasu returned to action following a calf injury for the 2-1 loss against Fulham on New Year’s Eve but then jetted out to the Asian Cup in Qatar, meaning that he has featured only once for the Gunners since creating the opener in the 2-1 win over Wolves on 2 December.

He is likely to be available for Sunday’s Premier League trip to West Ham as Arteta’s side seek to maintain the momentum they built on Sunday thanks to their 3-1 success over Liverpool at home.

Indeed, Tomiyasu is set to have a significant role to play as the Gunners chase success in the Premier League and in the Champions League, having secured his long-term future at the club.
