Chelsea have threatened Conor Gallagher with a summer sale if he does not sign a new contract.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who reports that it has been made clear to Gallagher that if he does not renew his deal he will be sold this summer.

The reason for this is because Gallagher’s contract at Stamford Bridge will expire in 2025 and Chelsea will not allow him to run his deal down.

Either he extends his deal or they will sell in order to make back a transfer fee.

What did Romano say?

“Conor Gallagher is another name at Chelsea continuing to attract headlines, but it’s another one that’s not resolved yet. Despite reports from some sources that Chelsea have now decided to sell the midfielder, there’s nothing confirmed yet. We will see in the next months,” Romano said.

“At the moment Gallagher’s contract situation remains the same; of course if he arrives to June/July out of contract in 2025, it will be again be an extend-or-sell situation for Gallagher. But nothing is concrete at this stage – in January we had 100 rumours per day but nothing happened, not even negotiations.”

Gallagher was the subject of many reports over the January transfer window, with Tottenham said to have been very interested in signing the England midfielder.

The 24-year-old has been at Chelsea since he was a youth player from 2008.

After a series of loan moves he established himself as a regular in the first team, and in total he has made 76 appearances for the club, scoring four goals.

Gallagher has also won 11 caps for the England national team and is expected to go to Euro 2024 this summer.
