Pochettino ignores Boehly as fans urge for Chelsea boss to be sacked

Chelsea’s defeat in the Carabao Cup final has left Mauricio Pochettino under massive pressure, with large sections of the club’s fanbase calling for him to be sacked.

The Blues are currently 11th in the Premier League table and although they are still in the FA Cup, their best chance of claiming a piece of silverware this season disappeared with a timid performance against Liverpool at Wembley.

Virgil van Dijk scored a 118th minute winner to condemn Chelsea to their sixth successive domestic cup defeat in a row, setting a new record in English football, as Pochettino paid the price for a conservative extra-time approach.

Despite Liverpool’s injury crisis ensuring Jurgen Klopp was forced to use several youngsters at Wembley, Chelsea sat deep in extra-time rather than push for a late winner. They were soon deflated as Van Dijk powered home a Kostas Tsimikas corner in the dying embers of the match and in his post-match press conference, Pochettino angered Chelsea fans to a huge degree.

What did Mauricio Pochettino say?

“The team felt maybe the penalties would be good for us,” he told reporters. That quote did not go down well with Chelsea fans.

One supporter posted on X: “Are you taking the p*ss? That's a sackable quote in itself. AGAINST LIVERPOOL'S C TEAM!!!”

“Embarrassing. This cannot be the mentality of a Chelsea manager. Get him gone,” another added, while a third said: “DISGRACE. SACK HIM NOW!” in response to Pochettino’s comment.

Chelsea fans were also quick to notice that Pochettino completely ignored Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly on the walk to collect his runners-up medal.

The video has resulted in many Blues fans speculating that Pochettino may now lose his job, with Boehly potentially deciding enough is enough after this latest incident.

The American billionaire has spent over €1 billion on transfers since arriving in 2022, yet his significant investment has not seen any rewards thus far.
