Chelsea face a fight to retain Levi Colwill, with PSG interested in a transfer for the versatile young defender.

Colwill, who will celebrate his 21st birthday on 26 February, has impressed over the last 18 months in the Premier League, first on loan with Brighton and now back with his parent club.

This has attracted significant attention in the player, who can play at left-back as well as in the middle of defence, with Liverpool seriously interested in a deal last summer.

The Reds, though, now face competition from PSG for the defender, according to football transfer news expert Ben Jacobs, who admits that there is no “imminent threat” of Colwill departing his current club.

“PSG, like Liverpool, also appreciate Levi Colwill. Chelsea will auto-dismiss any offers, and Colwill has zero interest in leaving Stamford Bridge right now,” Jacobs told Caught Offside.

“No suitor is going to try in summer 2024 unless something crazy and dramatic changes, but PSG are prepared to play the long game. It might be one to watch in 2025 if Chelsea’s project doesn’t go to plan, but right now Colwill is untouchable. All suitors know this and that it is a waste of time to advance anything right now.”

Colwill perfect for PSG

Colwill fits the type of player that PSG are seeking to sign as they move into a post-superstar era, which will be further hastened by the departure of Kylian Mbappe next summer.

The Parc des Princes side are trying to build a team of world-class, young individuals spearheaded by the likes of Warren Zaire-Emery and Xavi Simons, who are already on their books. These players are expected to be supplemented by the best young talent from Ligue 1, such as Bradley Barcola, and abroad, which is where Colwill fits in.

Chelsea have no fears over losing Colwill at this juncture, but with the club seeking to shed a major academy talent in the form of Conor Gallagher, much to the annoyance of manager Mauricio Pochettino, a deal in the future should not be dismissed.
