Ivan Toney will leave Brentford in the summer for a Premier League giant, but will it be Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea or a surprise contender who lands the England star?

Toney has exploded back onto the scene after returning from a betting ban, scoring two goals in three games after missing around eight months of action.

There had been a suggestion that the 27-year-old could be on the move during January, but after Brentford put a price tag of £100 million (€117m) on their ace, this effectively ended that prospect.

Fabrizio Romano, though, has given his pursuers a positive update ahead of the summer that opens the door to a move.

The football transfer news expert has confirmed that Toney’s asking price will be slashed in the summer.

Writing in his daily briefing, Romano confirmed: “Thomas Frank has spoken publicly about Ivan Toney being likely to leave at the end of this season. He’ll have just a year left on his contract, so his price tag will likely be lower than the £100m it would have cost to sign him in January.

“I think this situation makes sense and I don’t think clubs needed Frank to say that, it’s quite obvious and also one of the reasons why no one wanted to pay that amount of money in January. In the summer it will be different, for sure.”

How much is Ivan Toney worth?

Toney has seen his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) plummet to just €22.4m following his period out of the game, having hit a high of €36.5m previously.

The drop in his value is partially due to Toney’s lack of action, but it has also come about because his contract is drawing to an end. He has less than 18 months remaining on his deal, with next summer Brentford’s last opportunity to raise a significant fee for the striker.

On top of this, Toney will turn 28 in March, indicating that there is unlikely to be significant sell-on value in him given he is now well into his peak years.
