Man Utd & Arsenal target wants to follow Alonso to Liverpool
Jeremie Frimpong has admitted that joining Liverpool 'would be great.'
The Bayer Leverkusen defender is once again enjoying a spectacular campaign. Having already established himself as one of Europe's most productive full-backs in previous seasons, Frimpong has taken his game to another level this term in Xabi Alonso's fine-tuned system.
The Dutch right-back has contributed to Bayer's table-topping form with a whopping nine goals and 10 assists in all competitions so far, including netting a brilliant strike against Bayern Munich in their potentially title-deciding recent clash. Frimpong is a sought-after commodity and not just because he's having such a good season.
The 23-year-old already wanted to leave Leverkusen in the summer, but a move ultimately didn't materialise. The desire to take the next step in his career has not dissipated, hence why he insisted on adding a €40 million release clause when he signed a new long-term deal in October 2023. This relatively affordable clause will make him one of the biggest signing opportunities of the summer window.
Frimpong fond of Liverpool
Last summer, Frimpong was heavily linked with Man Utd and the Red Devils have recently reignited their interest, as FootballTransfers revealed. However, we also exclusively reported in December that Arsenal are keen on the Dutchman too, and he would prefer a switch to north London.
More recently, Liverpool have reportedly joined the race and Frimpong has now been asked about the Reds, who could be coached by Alonso next term. The Spaniard is the favourite to take over from the departing Jurgen Klopp in the summer.
Speaking to Ziggo Sport, the full-back said this in response to being asked about potentially joining the Anfield side: "Liverpool? Great club, with history. That would be great. Who knows what the future will bring.”
