Manchester City have joined Real Madrid in the race to sign Achraf Hakimi from PSG, according to AS.

City are thought to be in the market for a long-term successor to Kyle Walker, who is now 33 years of age.

The Englishman nearly left the club for Bayern Munich last summer but opted to stay and sign a contract extension.

Nevertheless, he will need to be replaced sooner rather than later and Hakimi is one of the world's best in his position.

With Pep Guardiola opting for inverted wing-backs in recent seasons, the signing of Hakimi would offer his side something very different.

The Moroccan is an expert at flying up and down the right wing, essentially acting as another attacker in possession.

The Citizens will face strong competition from Madrid, though, who could have the advantage in negotiations.

Hakimi to Real Madrid?

Kylian Mbappe finally seems set for a transfer to Real Madrid in the summer, and he could be joined by one his best friends, Achraf Hakimi.

Mbappe formed a close bond with Hakimi since the Morocco international arrived in Paris from Inter Milan in 2021.

Hakimi, of course, is a graduate of the Real Madrid academy, but failed to make the grade at the Bernabeu and departed after making just 17 appearances across all competitions.

However, SportsZone previously reported that the right-back is pushing for a return to Spain's capital.

“Achraf Hakimi wishes to leave PSG. Real Madrid are attentive.

“For the moment, Madrid are planning to recruit in the right-back position in the summer of 2025.

“PSG still hope to extend his contract and do not wish to sell.”
