Man Utd, Chelsea and Real Madrid among suitors for €50m-rated Italy star Scalvini
The race is on for one of the hottest talents to emerge from Serie A in recent years. Giorgio Scalvini, the Atalanta centre back, is only 20 years old but is already mature beyond his years.
His calm and assured defensive style, as well as his outstanding physical prowess, mark him out as one of the best defenders to break out from Italy in recent seasons.
As such, he has been linked with a move to all the biggest clubs in the Italian top flight as well as the most important teams in Europe. There is an acceptance at Atalanta that he will be their next big star to move on and the game is now about getting the best fee possible.
A report this week in Calciomercato stated that Milan have effectively been priced out of a move for Scalvini with Atalanta not budging from their €50 million valuation for the homegrown prospect.

Juventus could also be in the market for a central defender, with bids expected for Gleison Bremer, and could be the most attractive domestic proposition for the seven-cap Italy international.
Meanwhile, it’s been reported previously that Napoli like the defender, but prestige has fallen this season, while Inter would face major sales before being able to strike a deal.
Consequently, moving abroad appears to be the next step for Scalvini.
A move abroad looks inevitable for Scalvini
At the top of the list are Manchester United, now operating under new part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS business.
United are in dire need of defensive reinforcements this summer with Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane out of contract and the futures of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof far from secure.
Furthermore lines of communication have been opened between the clubs since the transfer of Rasmus Hojlund last summer and it was reported in January that the Red Devils had contacted Atalanta over the possibility of also adding Scalvini.
Chelsea, inevitably, have been credited with interest with Thiago Silva likely to leave. Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile have not convinced either with the latter linked to a shock winter move in January.
Bayern Munich will be undergoing a reconstruction this summer and tried long and hard to find the right centre back option before settling for Eric Dier in the winter market. They too have been lined up as a possible destination.
Paris Saint-Germain, meanwhile, are reported to be in the market for a defender with Jules Kounde, Levi Colwill and also Scalvini linked with a move to the Parc des Princes.
Borussia Dortmund has become a well-established stepping stone for elite youngsters such as Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland and have also been mentioned as possible suitors.
There is also interest from Real Madrid, coached by Scalvini’s compatriot Carlo Ancelotti. Los Blancos have endured central defensive chaos this season with Eder Militao and David Alaba injured for long spells and players like Aurelien Tchouameni and Dani Carvajal filling in at centre back. Club captain Nacho Fernandez, meanwhile, is out of contract at the end of the season.
It all means that Scalvini could have his pick of clubs at the end of the season should the right deals be struck with his club.
He is expected to be one of the breakout stars of Euro 2024 having made his debut aged only 18 and six months under Roberto Mancini - the youngest Italian international centre back of all time. He should well be a first-choice at the tournament for the defending champions, now coached by Luciano Spalletti.
Standing at a strapping 6’4, Scalvini came through the Atalanta youth system before making his first-team debut aged only 17.
Scalvini signed new deal in January
He has played recently on the right of a back three and last season under manager Gian Piero Gasperini he even appeared at the base of midfield. That kind of versatility and tactical flexibility is sure to be attractive to suitors.
He signed a new contract in January, extending his terms to 2028, but that move was widely seen as an attempt on the part of the club to ensure maximum profit.
"I'm grateful to the club, I'm very attached to the Atalanta family,” he said upon his contract signing.
“I was a child, now I am becoming a man with this shirt. I'm very happy to be here, my only thought is Atalanta and I just want to improve with work every day."
Scalvini will be one to watch heading into the summer and will become a household names in the years ahead.
