Man Utd chief-elect Ashworth eyes Premier League winger - Ornstein

David Ornstein has opened up about Manchester United’s interest in Pedro Neto of Wolves.

The Athletic reporter has claimed that Dan Ashworth, who appears set to take up a position as sporting director at Man Utd, could bring in the Portugal international.

Ashworth is on gardening leave after informing Newcastle he would like to depart to Old Trafford. It’s thought that the Magpies are demanding £20m for his services.

And when his move to Man Utd is signed and sealed, the Newcastle chief could look to Neto.

Ornstein wrote in The Athletic, as part of a Q&A: “It is no secret that the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle United (perhaps Manchester United, too, with Dan Ashworth moving there from Newcastle) are all admirers of the Portugal international, although they may harbour some reservations about his fitness record.

“It would also take around £80m for Wolves to part with Neto, as I understand it.”

Newcastle are believed to be furious at Ashworth’s decision to leave for Man Utd, given how much he knows about the inner workings of the club.

It’s not clear yet whether Man Utd will pay the compensation fee for Ashworth.

Which clubs are interested in Pedro Neto?

FootballTransfers revealed that Neto is a target for Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool as early as last year. The winger has enjoyed a stunning campaign at Wolves so far this season, netting three goals while also providing 11 assists in just 19 appearances.

His form in the Premier League has led to suggestions that he will leave during the summer window, and he’s not short of suitors.

Man Utd will be in the market for a right-sided attacker, with Antony underperforming and Jadon Sancho’s future remains unresolved.
