Romano drops major update on Man Utd's Dumfries pursuit
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Denzel Dumfries could leave Inter in the summer and given an update on Man Utd's interest.
The Dutch right-back could become the protagonist of one of 2024's biggest transfer sagas. Out of contract in 2025, Inter will likely have to cash in on the 27-year-old in the summer.
Given that Dumfries has established himself as one of Europe's top players in his position in recent years, the Nerazzurri would naturally like to keep him long-term, but so far little progress has been made on getting him to agree to signing a new deal. The summer transfer window will therefore represent Inter's final chance of receiving a significant fee for him.
This has put Man Utd and Europe's elite on red alert. The former PSV man is a sought-after commodity and has been repeatedly linked with a switch to Old Trafford, especially since Erik ten Hag has been in charge. Indeed, a recent report out of Italy claimed that the Dutch head coach was the driving force behind the Red Devils' interest in Dumfries.
Summer exit a possibility
According to Fabrizio Romano, a summer exit is a distinct possibility for Dumfries. As for Man Utd, however, it is too early to say whether or not they will make a move given that the club are still in the process of overhauling their sporting leadership.
“Denzel Dumfries could leave Inter in the summer," the transfer expert told CaughtOffside. "It’s a possibility because there’s still no agreement on a new deal at the moment. Man United have been linked but any decision – as I always mention – will be up to the new director."
“So, let’s see what the new director wants to do about right-backs; but there are multiple clubs that appreciate Dumfries so I’m sure it’s gonna be a busy summer for the Dutchman.”
