Man Utd suffer MAJOR Van de Beek blow after latest Frankfurt setback

Manchester United’s hopes of extracting a large transfer fee from Donny van de Beek this summer have been dashed following his start to life at Eintracht Frankfurt.

The former Netherlands international joined Frankfurt on loan during the January transfer window, but his opening month in Germany hasn’t gone quite to plan.

Upon arriving in the Bundesliga, Van de Beek started three consecutive league games for Eintracht Frankfurt, but he was substituted in all three, including at half-time against Mainz on 26 January.

This weekend, he was benched for their trip to Koln, and Van de Beek remained as an unused substitute during Frankfurt's 2-0 defeat.

Furthermore, German outlet Bild have now reported that Van de Beek will not be included in Frankfurt’s squad for the knockout stages of the European Conference League.

Eintracht Frankfurt are able to make three changes to their squad ahead of the knockout fixtures, but they have decided to add Sasa Kalajdzic, Hugo Ekitike and Phillip Max.

The former two both joined Eintracht Frankfurt on loan in January, while Max wasn’t included in the European Conference League squad for the group stages, but has been added now.

As a result, there is no room for Van de Beek, with the Dutchman seemingly not viewed as an important player in their pursuit of European glory.

With the Dutchman unable to display his talent on a more worldwide stage, potential suitors may be put off given Frankfurt evidently don’t see Van de Beek as a crucial player. With that in mind, Man Utd may not be able to extract the highest possible transfer fee for the former Ajax man.

In total, Van de Beek has played just 62 times for Man Utd, with those appearances totalling up to only 2,082 minutes of action in over three years.

Van de Beek’s role was even more restricted this season and he made just one Premier League appearance - a two minute cameo against Crystal Palace - before being shipped to Germany.
