Romano drops Man Utd update that will ruin Ten Hag's transfer plans
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Bayern Munich chiefs have held a very productive meeting with Mathys Tel.
The Bayern striker has been the subject of transfer speculation in recent weeks. German media revealed that Manchester United had begun looking at the 18-year-old as a potential option for the summer.
Erik ten Hag has made no secret of his desire to add another striker despite the €74 million acquisition of Rasmus Hojlund, publically admitting that he wanted to bring in another centre-forward in January but that Financial Fair Play did not permit a new signing.
Tel, highly rated from a young age, would have presented a unique opportunity for the Red Devils. What made them confident of potentially poaching him from Bayern was the fact that, despite a strong start to the season, he has barely featured in recent weeks under Thomas Tuchel.
The sacking of Tuchel, however, has thrown a spanner in the works and Bayern have now reiterated to the youngster that he is firmly in their plans for the future, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Tel to stay at Bayern
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the Italian transfer expert insisted that Man Utd had not yet made a definitive decision on whether or not to pursue Tel. "One of the priorities at Bayern is to keep Mathys Tel at the club. We had rumours on Man Utd weeks ago, but I told you guys, there is nothing between Man Utd and Mathys Tel."
"First of all because Man Utd, before deciding if they want an experienced striker, a young striker, they want to wait for the new structure to be in place at the club and then decide on which player they want to bring in at that position. So Man Utd never started any concrete conversation for Mathys Tel."
"But also important to say that yesterday, [there was] a meeting between [Gadiri] Camara, the agent of Mathys Tel, and Bayern director Christoph Freund, a very positive meeting. Bayern told Mathys Tel that they don't want him to leave, they want him to be an important part of the project. The boy wants to stay, he wants to be an important part of Bayern's future and so Mathys Tel is staying at Bayern."
