Man Utd and Liverpool set to battle for Crystal Palace star
Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in Marc Guehi, according to a report.
The Crystal Palace defender has established himself as one of the Premier League's best centre-backs since leaving Chelsea for the Eagles. The 23-year-old has become a rock at the back and will play a crucial role under new boss Oliver Glasner, who has been tasked with keeping Palace in the league after Roy Hodgson stepped down.
However, Guehi's future beyond this season is currently up in the air. Contracted until 2026, it is becoming increasingly unlikely that the defender will see out his deal and he certainly won't be signing an extension. The upcoming summer window will represent Palace's best chance of receiving maximum value for their star man.
Indeed, according to The Telegraph, Liverpool and Man Utd are already lurking and could pursue a deal in the summer, though it will ultimately depend on how their management overhauls shake out.
Summer transfer for Guehi?
Liverpool are currently without a sporting director and will be without a coach after this season. This uncertainty makes predicting the Reds' potential summer business tricky, but the above-mentioned report asserts that Guehi has nevertheless already been shortlisted as a potential target.
It's a similar story at Old Trafford. Man Utd are currently in the process of acquiring the services of Newcastle director Dan Ashworth, who had previously wanted to sign Guehi for the Magpies. However, this doesn't mean that he will necessarily be in for him again in the summer.
As for Chelsea, the Blues are in the market for a centre-back as this is Thiago Silva's final season at Stamford Bridge, but their lack of Champions League football will make it difficult to bring the 23-year-old back despite them having the option to match the offers that come in for him. They will nevertheless benefit from a potential summer move as they also have a sell-on clause for Guehi.
