The truth on Erling Haaland’s unhappiness at Man City

Erling Haaland is not unhappy at Manchester City and doesn’t want to quit the club to join Real Madrid.

That is according to Football Insider, who report that their sources insist that there are “no worries” about Haaland staying at the club this summer.

Reports in Spain over recent days have said that Haaland is unsettled at City and looking to leave the club.

The Norwegian is said to believe that he needs to move to a bigger, more traditional club - like Real Madrid - if he is to win the Ballon d’Or.

Madrid have been heavily linked with preparing a future move for Haaland this season, with reports they want to pair the striker with likely free transfer summer signing Kylian Mbappe.

The Man City star’s agent Rafaela Pimenta was present at the Santiago Bernabeu on earlier in the campaign to watch the Champions League win over Braga, fuelling further reports that talks were underway with Madrid.

Erling Haaland release clause

Haaland has a release clause that comes into effect in the summer of 2024 that is worth €200 million.

That release clause is only valid for clubs outside of the Premier League.

It is also reported that the release clause will decrease each year after it is activated in 2024.

Haaland reportedly has a second minimum fee release clause that will be activated in the summer of 2025 that stands at €175m. It will then decrease again in 2026.

Man City boss Pep Guardiola also insisted over the weekend that Haaland is happy at the club. “We don’t feel he’s unhappy and we can’t control what people say,” Pep said.

Haaland has been a revelation since joining Man City from Borussia Dortmund for €60m in the summer of 2022. He has scored 71 goals in 76 games and played a big role in the club winning the treble last term.
