Man Utd and Liverpool target 'one to watch for the summer' - Romano
Dutch international Teun Koopmeiners will be 'one to watch' in the summer transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 25-year-old has been starring for Atalanta in Serie A in recent times and has attracted big-name attention. A versatile central midfielder who can be deployed both in a more attacking and more defensive role, Koopmeiners is a sought-after commodity if recent reports are to be believed.
Liverpool, for example, hold a long-standing interest in the Dutchman, having previously been linked with a move for him in the summer. The Reds beefed up their midfield in 2023, but it is thought that at least one more player for the centre of the park could arrive at Anfield.
However, the recent departure of sporting director Jorg Schmadtke and the impending exit of Jurgen Klopp means that there is some uncertainty regarding any potential Liverpool targets. It is difficult to make decisions on signings without a recruitment chief and no coach for the upcoming campaign.
More recently, Man Utd have begun being credited with an interest in Koopmeiners, with head coach Erik ten Hag said to be a great admirer of his compatriot. The likes of Tottenham and Juventus have also been associated with the midfielder and there is a good chance that he could be on the move in the summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Koopmeiners 'one to watch'
The Italian transfer expert has revealed that the Dutchman will be 'one to watch' in the summer, though he has played down Tottenham's supposed interest in the player. Addressing the Spurs and Juventus links specifically, Romano told CaughtOffside: “Teun Koopmeiners – there have been reports linking the Atalanta midfielder with Tottenham, but I’m not aware of anything concrete yet from Spurs."
“I’m aware of Juventus' strong interest in Koopmeiners for the summer, but it’s never easy to negotiate with Atalanta. This could be one to watch for the summer, there’s nothing being negotiated in February or March.”
Juventus will certainly need to strengthen their midfield in the summer given Paul Pogba's seemingly forthcoming suspension from football, though it is unclear whether Koopmeiners will be the man to replace the World Cup winner. According to recent reports, Atalanta could demand as much as €60 million for their star man and it is difficult to imagine the Bianconeri being able to shell out that much.
