The next Salah? Newcastle and Tottenham want Bundesliga striker better than Kane
Newcastle and Tottenham are chasing one of the few Bundesliga strikers to outperform Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane this season.
Spurs sold Kane to Bayern in the summer for €95 million but have not moved to replace the England captain adequately.
Newcastle, meanwhile, face the prospect of losing Callum Wilson in the summer and require support for Alexander Isak, who has also been linked with a switch away from the club due to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
According to Bild (via Shields Gazette), the two Premier League giants believe they may have found the solution in the form of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush, an Egypt international striker who has been in prolific form in the Bundesliga this season.
Having seen the impact that compatriot Mohamed Salah has had over the last seven years at Liverpool, the 25-year-old may fancy himself to become the next big star from his country to play in England.
Marmoush a man in form
Marmoush has 10 goals and five assists across 18 Bundesliga appearances this season. This equates to a goal contribution every 88.8 minutes on the field.
His form has been particularly hot since returning from Afcon duty, with goals against Bochum, Freiburg and Wolfsburg.
According to data analytics firm SciSports, he is the second-best performing striker in the Bundesliga, eclipsing even Kane.
Marmoush vs Bundesliga strikers: 2023/24
Using hundreds of in-game data points, SciSports analyses the performances of players across the league and rank them based on their unique formula. This shows that Marmoush is second in terms of his overall performance.
Tottenham legend Kane, by contrast, is only fifth.
There are other players hotly linked with big summer moves around Marmoush, too. RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, who has been associated with Manchester United, comes in third and Victor Boniface is fourth.
He has a very similar playing profile to Kane, which suggests he would suit Spurs, while for Newcastle he would provide a more natural box striker than Isak.
With an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of just €15.7 million, Marmoush could represent an excellent bargain signing.
