Rooney targets Man Utd or Everton manager job despite EMBARRASSING stat
Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney says that he wants to manage either the Old Trafford club or Everton in the next decade.
Rooney lasted just 83 days in charge of Birmingham City in the Championship before being sacked earlier this season in a major setback for his ambitions.
But Rooney, who is Man Utd’s all-time leading scorer after netting 253 times for the club, is still aiming for the very top.

Speaking to the BBC, he said: “Managing Manchester United or Everton is the aim, these big jobs are where you want to get to. But it’s a process. I have got to go through the steps and get myself back on track.
“I want to get myself back into management to make sure in the next 10 years I'm hopefully in a position to go into one of the big jobs.”
Rooney’s spell at Birmingham, meanwhile, was lamentable. He lost nine of 15 matches in charge of a team that he had taken over while they were sixth in the Championship, leaving them just above the relegation zone.
“I definitely want to get back into management. It was a setback what happened at Birmingham but I'm a fighter and I want to get back into it,” he added.

“You know as a manager [being sacked] is part of the job and you will have setbacks. It's about how you bounce back.
“I've had some good time to reflect and will make sure I get it right next time.”

Rooney has managed three clubs: Derby County, DC United and Birmingham City.
He spent 18 months at Derby, where he won 24 of 85 matches before leaving in June 2022. From there, he moved rapidly to MLS side DC United, where he oversaw 53 games, including just 14 wins.
Rooney’s spell at Birmingham was clearly his poorest, with just two wins in 15 games.
