It’s been dubbed “Derby Week” in Lisbon with two heavyweight clashes looming and the fate of both the cup and the league hanging in the balance.

Sporting are one point clear of Benfica at the top of the table, having played a game less, and are looking like a solid bet to regain the Portuguese title under highly-regarded coach Ruben Amorim.

One big reason for Sporting’s incredible season to date has been the form of striker Viktor Gyokeres.

The Sweden international was signed from Championship side Coventry City last summer for a Sporting club-record fee of €20 million, potentially rising to €24m.

The 25-year-old has been in sensational goalscoring form for the Lions this term, netting 36 goals in 40 games overall and weighing in with 14 assists.

Gyokeres has been in such fine form that a queue of European clubs are now lining up to sign him this summer.

Chelsea and Arsenal’s interest in the former Brighton forward is well documented and now the likes of Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan are on the case.

Milan boast Gyokeres’ idol, fellow Swede Zlatan Ibrahimovic, as a secret weapon in their attempts to sway the player into moving to Serie A but the latest reports suggest Milan’s €50m valuation is going to fall well short of Sporting’s expectations.

With a contract until 2028, Gyokeres currently has a buyout clause of €100m inserted in his deal and Sporting’s higher-ups are adamant about securing as close to that price as possible should they need to sell this summer.

Sporting want to renegotiate Gyokeres buyout to €120m

A Bola is now reporting that Gyokeres’ representatives have jetted into Lisbon ahead of this week’s derbies and they will watch their player from the stands on Tuesday night.

Gyokeres is represented by Hasan Cetinkaya’s HCM Sports Management agency and talks are scheduled between the club and the player’s entourage this week according to the report.

Sporting want to use this opportunity in order to discuss a renegotiated contract for the 20-cap international, offering him a pay bump in exchange for boosting his buyout clause towards the €120m mark.

The club are expecting a record bid for Gyokeres this summer, eclipsing the €60m that PSG paid to sign Manuel Ugarte last summer.

Arsenal, Chelsea and other interested parties will be watching negotiations with interest as it could have a significant impact on their summer outlay.
