Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has blamed Manchester United for Jadon Sancho’s slow start to his second spell at the club.

Sancho joined Dortmund on loan during the January transfer market as he he returned to the club that he left in 2021.

The English winger scored an excellent goal on Saturday during the 2-1 win over Werder Bremen but it was his first goal back at Dortmund.

Indeed, until then, Sancho has performed very poorly for Dortmund and had been delivering similar under-par performances to the ones he displayed at United.

Kehl, though, says that his slow start back at Dortmund was all Man Utd’s fault.

What did Kehl say?

"Doing something like that, you can of course see what a great footballer he is,” Kehl said of Sancho’s goal.

“You can see how he can make a difference, especially in one-on-one situations. Everyone is happy for Jadon because they saw how hard he was working and how willing he was to help the team. Goals help. He's had one or two assists before, but this goal will help him and give him a boost.

"You should not forget that he didn't play for a long time. It's like when a player has a cruciate ligament injury and is out for a long time. We need him and we will again on Wednesday and for the coming weeks."

Sancho joined Man Utd from Dortmund for €85 million in the summer of 2021.

But he has been a major disappointment at Old Trafford.

He has scored just 12 goals in 82 appearances for United and has regularly been a bench player during his time at the club.

Earlier this season, Sancho was frozen out of the squad at Man Utd.

It came after manager Erik ten Hag criticised Sancho publicly for his poor performances in training, which was followed by the winger essentially calling his manager a liar on social media.

Sancho was not called up again after this incident and was barred from training with the first team, as well as using their facilities and canteen.

Sancho was also deleted from the team’s WhatsApp group by Ten Hag.

United transfer listed him and then sent him on loan to Dortmund in January.

He has one goal and one assist at Dortmund since arriving back.
