Douglas Luiz insists he is happy at Aston Villa amid speculation that he could be sold this summer owing to FFP pressure.

The Brazilian has been in the form of his life this season, with nine Premier League goals to his name in 28 games, and is playing with greater creative licence in the Villa midfield than ever before.

Owing to injuries suffered by fellow midfielder Boubacar Kamara last season, the Vasco da Gama academy graduate found himself at the base of midfield but has been allowed to play much higher up the pitch this season, under manager Unai Emery.

That has led to an increased output on the part of the 25-year-old, leading to transfer speculation ahead of this summer’s window.

Luiz's former club Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal have all been mentioned as possible destinations for the Brazilian Olympic gold medalist, who has a contract with Villa until 2026.

Arsenal great Gilberto Silva would like his compatriot to move to the Emirates Stadium to work under Mikel Arteta while former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane urged his club to go out and get the ex-Girona man.

It’s been suggested that Villa’s recently announced losses could force them into player sales this summer with Luiz, Jacob Ramsey and Ollie Watkins among those reportedly touted as potential departees.

However, Luiz is enjoying the freedom that Unai Emery has given him as Villa manager and declared that he is ‘comfortable’ at Villa Park.

Douglas Luiz happy despite transfer links

“I feel very comfortable after Emery’s arrival,” he said on international duty ahead of Brazil’s friendly with England according to MUOL.

“With the previous managers I was a 6, a 5, but with him I have more freedom, exactly the way I like to play.

“I’ve totalled 10 goals and 10 assists [in all competitions] this season. The formation makes me more comfortable.

“I spoke to [Brazil manager] Dorival about the way he’d like me to play. The freedom is very good for adding goals and assists.”
