'Disappointed across the board!' - Man Utd blow as Frankfurt make Van de Beek decision
Manchester United are facing yet another transfer headache in the summer with the news that Eintracht Frankfurt WON’T take up the permanent option at the end of Donny van de Beek’s loan deal.
The Netherlands international, 26, joined Frankfurt on the first day of the January transfer window on an initial six-month loan deal, with a permanent fee of around €11 million, rising to €14m, included in the deal.
That sum would be considerably less than the €35m + €5m that United paid to Ajax for Van de Beek’s services back in 2020.

However, with a contract expiring in 2025 and no other deals lined up, the club could end up losing him for nothing next year.
Van de Beek is among Man Utd’s biggest transfer bombs, playing only 62 times across almost FOUR YEARS, with over half of those appearances coming in the 2020-21 season.
The 19-cap Dutchman also endured a horrible spell on loan at Everton in 2021-22, where he played a total of seven times.
Van de Beek’s fall from grace
It’s been a remarkable fall from grace from one of the stars of Ajax’s run to the Champions League final back in 2019 under Erik ten Hag, with Van de Beek’s form earning interest from Europe’s elite including Rea Madrid.
His move to Old Trafford hasn’t worked out and his side will be looking to offload him this summer to any interested parties.
Frankfurt disappointed in Van de Beek
Bild reports that Frankfurt are “disappointed across the board” with the midfielder, who has played in only six of the 10 Bundesliga games he’s been eligible for, with four starts and no goals or assists.
If nothing changes then he will be sent packing at the end of the season with big question marks over his long-term future.
United couldn’t afford to sign any players during the winter owing to FFP restrictions, according to Ten Hag, and would have been hoping to make money this summer on any potential departures.
Players like Van de Beek and Jadon Sancho, on loan at Dortmund will likely be listed for sale with the new regime led by INEOS supremo Sir Jim Ratcliffe hoping to refresh the United squad and get them back among the elite.
