Manchester United have bizarrely been the most discussed club on social media in relation to Kylian Mbappe following the PSG superstar’s bombshell announcement.

Unfortunately for the Red Devils, most of the posts have been mocking the fallen English giants.

Mbappe officially announced on Friday his departure from PSG at the end of the season.

The Frenchman will leave the Parisians next month on a free transfer when his contract expires.

What had been an open secret for months has now been confirmed by Mbappe, who announced that he will not extend his PSG contract and will depart the Parc des Princes.

Although it is widely believed that Mbappe will join Real Madrid on a free transfer, the attacker did not announce his next club in his farewell message to PSG.

This led to much discussion on social media - and in particular Twitter - over Mbappe’s next step.

Strangely, Man Utd were the most mentioned club on Twitter in the following 24 hours when fans were discussing Mbappe.

But the vast majority of Tweets were mocking United.

Some sarcastically tweeted that Mbappe would soon announce he is joining Manchester United for next season.

Others tweeted that Mbappe would join Real Madrid before moving to Old Trafford once he is in his thirties.

This was in reference to Raphael Varane and Casemiro who have struggled after making that switch in their advancing years.

Mbappe, born in the Parisian suburb of Bondy, joined the capital club from Monaco in 2017 on an initial loan. His signing was made permanent for an eye-watering €180 million the following year. To date, he has notched a stunning 255 goals and 108 assists in 306 competitive fixtures for PSG.
