Dortmund dealt significant Sancho transfer blow

Manchester United will NOT entertain a swap deal involving Jadon Sancho and Donyell Malen this summer.

The 23-year-old moved to Old Trafford back in 2021 for an eye-watering £85 million fee but has failed to justify the hype throughout his time with the club.

Things reached a nadir back in the autumn when he fell out with manager Erik ten Hag and subsequently refused to apologise.

Sancho frozen out

That led to Sancho being frozen out of the first-team picture at United and, ultimately, he completed a €4m half-season loan move to former club Borussia Dortmund.

The England international started brightly at Signal-Iduna Park before his output faded in recent weeks.

However, the German giants are reported to be keen to do a permanent deal for their former star at the end of the season.

They failed to secure a permanent clause in the loan deal agreed with United back in January and it’s been suggested in recent weeks that they could offer to exchange players as a makeweight in any permanent deal.

United are among the teams who admire Malen, the Dutch forward who has scored 13 goals in 32 matches for the Yellow and Blacks this term.

Their interest in the 25-year-old extends back to his time at PSV although Malen has been on the radar of English clubs since his teenage days, when he was a youth figure at Arsenal.

But 90min reports that any deal involving Sancho is likely to be kept separate from any move for a player brought in to replace him.

This is due to United’s preference for putting Sancho’s full transfer fee in their accounts, although at this stage it’s unlikely they will recoup the full £85m they paid to Dortmund in the first place.

The club could even seek to defer any incomings in order to move the transfer fee into the following year’s accounts, according to the report.

It’s understood the ex-Manchester City youth favours a permanent exit from United should Ten Hag remain in charge.

Sancho scored his first Champions League goal since 2021 on Wednesday night as Borussia Dortmund overcame PSV to claim a place in this season’s quarter-final draw.
