Frimpong issues Arsenal dig in Bayer Leverkusen title celebrations

Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong issued a sly dig at Arsenal during his side’s celebrations following the confirmation of their first ever Bundesliga title.

Xabi Alonso’s side ran out 5-0 winners over Werder Bremen on Sunday to seal the German top flight trophy for the first time in the club’s history.

Goals from Victor Boniface, Granit Xhaka and Florian Wirtz (x3) were enough to dismantle relegation-threatened Werder Bremen and end Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga dominance. The Bavarians had won the title in each of the past 11 seasons before 2023-24, but their incredible run has been ended by Leverkusen, who remain unbeaten in all competitions this season.

Netherlands international Frimpong was heavily involved in the title celebrations and he was seen chasing Edmond Tapsoba with a stein of beer in the Leverkusen dressing room.

Furthermore, he also started an Instagram Live to showcase the jubilant scenes at the BayArena.

Jeremie Frimpong aims dig at Arsenal

On his Instagram Live, Manchester United target Frimpong embraced Xhaka and said to the Switzerland midfielder: “Tell them we won the league, Granit. You came from Arsenal and you won it here!”

Xhaka came extremely close to winning the Premier League title with Arsenal last season, but the Gunners missed out by five points to Manchester City. The former Borussia Monchengladbach star then joined Leverkusen for €15 million last summer and he played a key role in their Bundesliga triumph during his debut season at the club.

Arsenal are involved in another title race this campaign, although they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday, which means they are now two points behind league leaders Man City with six games left to play.

Xhaka’s Leverkusen side have the chance to add two further trophies to their cabinet this season - in the form of the DFB-Pokal and the Europa League. They are in the final of the former and are close to reaching the semi-final of the latter after beating West Ham United 2-0 in the first-leg.
