Liverpool to sign Frimpong and force Trent into PERMANENT move

Liverpool have joined a string of Premier League clubs in seeking a transfer for Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong that will have a profound impact on the career of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool have joined Manchester United and Arsenal in the hunt for former Celtic full-back Frimpong, who has 12 goals and 11 assists in 36 appearances for the Bundesliga champions in waiting.

The 23-year-old’s spectacular campaign, which is set to end with the Bundesliga title, has seen numerous big clubs step up their interest in the Netherlands star, who had already been on the radar of many teams last term.

His performance has seen a dramatic rise in his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV), which peaked at €53 million earlier this season and currently sits at €45m.

Frimpong’s potential arrival at Liverpool, though, poses questions over the future of Alexander-Arnold, who has held down the right-back berth since breaking into the first team in 2016.

The 25-year-old has been an offensive machine for the Reds, with his assist competitions with left-back Andrew Robertson the stuff of Anfield legend.

But Frimpong’s potential arrival spells a big change of direction for Alexander-Arnold, according to Football Insider.

It is claimed that if the Dutchman does join the Anfield club, it will force Alexander-Arnold into a midfield position on a permanent basis.

Trent into midfield

A change of position has been something that the England international has dabbled with this season under Jurgen Klopp. From this role, he produced three assists in two EFL Cup matches against Bournemouth and West Ham, while his performances in this area have looked impressively accomplished.

Alexander-Arnold has missed the last seven Premier League fixtures because of a torn knee ligament but is forecast to return to action for the run in.

Conor Bradley has stepped into his shoes impressively over the course of the two months and any deal for Frimpong would leave big questions over the promising Northern Ireland international’s future at Liverpool.
