Manchester United could let Donny van de Beek leave for free in the summer, according to a report.

The Red Devils are facing a major headache for the upcoming transfer window: Van de Beek's future. The Dutchman has been nothing short of a disaster signing for Man Utd and he has failed to revive his career on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 26-year-old failed to even get off the bench in the Eagles' disappointing, albeit slightly unlucky, 0-0 draw with Union Berlin and his future is looking increasingly uncertain - and bleak. Despite having a relatively affordable purchase option, the Bundesliga side have no intention whatsoever to make his move permanent as things stand.

Man Utd are already braced for a massive loss on Van de Beek when he eventually ends his Old Trafford nightmare, but they could even allow him to depart for nothing. At least that's what journalist Dean Jones posited when speaking to GIVEMESPORT.

Van de Beek to leave for free?

Discussing the Dutchman's future, Jones said: "If Frankfurt don’t want to buy him, the options for Manchester United are going to be another loan or a cheap sale elsewhere. At this stage, it might even be a case of agreeing to let him leave for free if it gets him off the wage bill."

Since moving to Man Utd, Van de Beek's value has plummeted, so it wouldn't be a shock to see them cut their losses. The Dutchman currently sits at an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of just €6.6 million after a January 2021 peak of €55m.

A potential contract termination could be good news for Ajax. Dutch media continues to link Van de Beek with a return to the Amsterdam giants and his girlfriend, Estelle Bergkamp, recently revealed that the midfielder would be open to moving back to his old stomping ground.
