Fabrizio Romano confirms Man Utd’s first summer exit
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United have already taken a decision on at least one player who will leave Old Trafford, but says that uncertainty continues to shroud several more, including Raphael Varane and Casemiro.
Romano says that there are “no doubts” that Anthony Martial will be allowed to leave the club at the end of his contract, with Man Utd having refused to take up the option that they have of extending his deal by a further year.
Martial’s departure will not come as a shock to fans. He has featured only 19 times across all competitions this season, while he has scored only a couple of goals. The France international has not featured since December following a groin problem sustained when it appeared United were ready to do everything to sell him in January.
“Anthony Martial will leave Man United at the end of the season, no doubts,” Romano wrote on X.
“He’s going to pick his fav option as next club in the coming months, now focused on recovery.”
Martial is going, but who else with Man Utd release?
In his column on the Daily Briefing, Romano provided another update on senior Man Utd figures who have been rumoured to be on their way out of the club, including Varane and Casemiro.
“Raphael Varane is another who, at the moment, has not been offered a new contract by United. We had rumours back in March about a new contract based on appearances and game time, but I’m told this is not true. Let’s see if things change, but as of today Varane has not received any proposal from the club, so his future remains open,” Romano writes.
“Sofyan Amrabat has a buy option in his loan from Fiorentina but at the moment the intention is not to trigger the buy option. Amrabat at the moment looks like he could return to Fiorentina, while there will also be discussions over other players like Christian Eriksen and Casemiro - these players will discuss their futures at United in the summer.
“With Casemiro, it’s important to clarify that although Saudi interest is there, Man United and Casemiro never received any formal proposal from Saudi clubs, so let’s see if that will change in the summer.”
