‘Matter of time before Man Utd unveiling’ – Romano makes exciting ‘GUARANTEE’

Fabrizio Romano says that it is “only a matter of time” before Manchester United take a big step forward in their summer transfer plans.

Romano has indicated that the Red Devils are closing in on the appointment of Jason Wilcox from Southampton, with the former Premier League title winner set to play a major part in the reconstruction of the backroom staff of the club.

Man Utd will make the ex-Blackburn Rovers winger their technical director, although their methods have left Southampton fuming at their treatment.

“I can guarantee to you once again that Jason Wilcox will be the new technical director of Manchester United. The agreement between Wilcox and Man United is in place and he has informed Southampton about his desire to join the Red Devils,” Romano writes for the Daily Briefing.

“Now it's time to understand about the compensation fee and the timing between Southampton and Man United to make the Wilcox deal happen, but he's already resigned.

“Reports about Liverpool are not true from what I heard. Wilcox is not going to Liverpool and never had a concrete negotiation with them. Liverpool have different ideas and he only wanted Manchester United.

“He's the former Head of Academy at Manchester City, he did an incredible job with people like Joe Shields and many others, but now the full focus is on Manchester United the future with INEOS.

“So, a work in progress but trust me, it's only a matter of time.”

Romano sends warning amid Ashworth delay

Romano has also revealed that talks with Newcastle are ongoing over the future of Dan Ashworth, with discussions said to be “tense”.

He also delivered a warning that the hold up that United are suffering now could have an impact down the line in the transfer window.

“This delay can of course make the process slower in terms of the club’s strategy, but the vision will always be there thanks to the co-owners and new people at the club,” he said.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are getting they staff they want together at Man Utd, but the process has been slower than they would have wished.
