Romano reveals what is next for Chelsea target Amorim after Liverpool snub

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the future of in-demand coach Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese tactician seems to have overplayed his hand. Following Xabi Alonso's decision to stay on at Bayer Leverkusen, Amorim emerged as one of the favourites for the soon-to-be-vacant Liverpool job.

Negotiations appeared to be progressing positively but eventually hit an impasse and Amorim, perhaps to put pressure on Liverpool, decided to travel to London for talks with West Ham where David Moyes is facing an uncertain future. Nothing ultimately came of it and the 39-year-old was forced to apologise to his current employer Sporting CP and the fans for publically meeting with a club in the midst of a title challenge.

Liverpool subsequently turned their attention to Feyenoord boss Arne Slot and an agreement to appoint him as Jurgen Klopp's successor has been reached, pending only official confirmation. Amorim's future, meanwhile, looks uncertain now.

Chelsea still admire the Portuguese as he was on their managerial shortlist last year but no decision has been made on whether to keep the faith in Mauricio Pochettino or whether to make yet another coaching change.

Speaking to CaughtOffside, Fabrizio Romano has sought to shed some light on Amorim's potential next step. The Italian transfer expert claims that Amorim is still keen on a job in the English top flight but that it won't be at West Ham.

"Still, Amorim would love to work in the Premier League," Romano said. "He’s still hoping for that solution, I’m told. Amorim will decide his future in the next weeks but he’s surely hoping for a job in the Premier League, despite Liverpool and West Ham talks collapsing."

"I think there is a 90% chance to see David Moyes leaving West Ham at the end of the season. This is the feeling. Then we have to wait for the formal steps and the formal meetings at the end of the season. But the intention internally looks very clear – West Ham are looking at candidates, so I see David Moyes leaving the club at the end of the season."

"In terms of Moyes’ replacement, they have multiple candidates at West Ham. We know they had a meeting with Amorim last Monday, but there is no agreement at all, it’s really far and it’s not going to happen."
