Everton's director of football has admitted that the Toffees will be forced to sell players this summer.

It appears as though Everton's financial problems won't be disappearing anytime soon. The Toffees have been hit with two point deductions this season but have still managed to remain in the Premier League.

Nevertheless, with the proposed takeover from 777 still at an impasse, and the American investors yet again in hot water, Everton are facing a massive and potentially painful summer transfer window.

As much has been revealed by director of football Kevin Thelwell, who has admitted in a statement that the Merseyside outfit will have to sell players this summer to "protect the long-term stability of the Club."

"The reality is, given the regulations in place and the Club’s current financial position, we have to trade well. Working within such tight financial parameters makes the job extremely difficult. Whilst we want to ensure the team is as competitive as possible, we cannot lose sight of our central objective to protect the long-term stability of the Club.

“That does mean players will be sold, and also that every tool at our disposal will be used to secure new additions to the squad, including utilisation of the loan market. Both Sean [Dyche] and I understand the responsibility we have – and that is a responsibility which has to be our priority."

Good news for the rest of the league

While refreshing to see a high-level Premier League figure address his side's internal matters so candidly, it will be gutting to Everton fans to read that their team might get torn apart this summer.

This, in turn, is good news to clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd. Jarrad Branthwaite is Everton's most prized asset and is one of Man Utd's top targets as revealed by FootballTransfers.
