Graham Potter’s agent leaves Ajax fuming as Man Utd claim made

Ajax still want Graham Potter to become their next head coach, yet that promises to be an increasingly difficult task with Manchester United still linked to the manager.

In terms of project and philosophy, Ajax seem to be at an agreement with the former Chelsea and Brighton boss, yet there is a sticking point in terms of money, with the agent of the 48-year-old having left the Amsterdam club exasperated.

Although talks remain open, an agreement is a long way off.

It’s understood that Potter’s agent, John Morris, is playing hardball and Ajax have almost had enough of it. They wanted to get a deal wrapped up a fortnight ago, but the final agreement is still not there. The situation is “worrying,” a source has claimed.

Dutch pundit Mike Verweij had previously expressed his concern over the issue during the early part of negotiations.

"What bothers me about Potter," Verweij began on Friday in De Telegraaf, "is that you hear and understand very clearly that he is suitable for Ajax. Okay, but he would rather go to another club.”

The Ajax pundit believes that the club must put a stop to the situation.

“If I were in the club management of Ajax - don't worry, that will never happen - I would not want a head coach who only chooses Ajax if he receives no other offers. You have to choose a manager who is eager to start working at Ajax,” he added.

Putting the pressure on Man Utd?

Another pundit believes that Potter is using Ajax as leverage to hurry Man Utd into making a move for him.

Valentijn Driessen says: “I just get the strong feeling that he is almost using Ajax and now also Feyenoord to put pressure on Manchester United, for example, where he really wants to go. Is this the way to play it?”

With Potter looking unlikely Ajax are likely to switch their thoughts to Nice head coach Francesco Farioli, a 35-year-old head coach who is five years younger than Ajax keeper Remko Pasveer.
