There is a lot of uncertainty about the future of the 33-year-old midfielder, who is still under contract at the Johan Cruyff ArenA until 2026. Henderson was acquired on a free transfer from Al-Ettifaq last winter.

Henderson was received with high expectations at Ajax in January but so far the cooperation has been disappointing for both parties. The English international is highly appreciated in Amsterdam, but the state of affairs within the club has raised eyebrows.

The ex-Liverpool captain is said to be surprised by, among other things, 'the lack of top sports culture' and 'the mentality of his fellow players.' Although Henderson is valued at Ajax, he has not yet been able to leave his mark on John van 't Schip's team.

The experienced midfielder has only played 866 minutes, spread across 10 matches. Only two of the matches in which Henderson played were won. He also had to miss six matches due to a muscle injury.

Henderson to leave?

Henderson is reportedly the absolute top earner at Ajax and, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic, there are doubts hanging over his future in Amsterdam because the current fifth-placed side in the Eredivisie are in danger of missing out on both Champions League and Europa League football.

Additionally, Henderson hoped for the arrival of Graham Potter as the club's new head coach, but the conversations between the English coach and Ajax ultimately came to nothing, with the 48-year-old rejecting them on Thursday.

It is expected that technical director Alex Kroes will hold discussions with Henderson on behalf of Ajax in the short term about his future at the Johan Cruyff ArenA. If Ajax sell the veteran, they may be able to collect a not-insignificant transfer fee as he still boasts an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €7.1 million.
