Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel are both interested in taking over at Manchester United if Erik ten Hag is sacked by the Red Devils.

Ten Hag, 54, guided the club to FA Cup glory on Saturday, but his future at Old Trafford remains uncertain following their eighth place finish in the 2023-24 Premier League season.

Man Utd are currently completing a post-season review and they will decide whether Ten Hag is the right man to lead them into the 2024-25 campaign.

Reports before the FA Cup final suggested that the Dutchman would be sacked regardless of the result at Wembley, but their surprise 2-1 victory over Manchester City has sparked renewed belief that an extended stay is a possibility.

However, Ten Hag being sacked remains the most likely scenario, according to multiple reports.

Several managers have been linked with taking over at Old Trafford if Ten Hag leaves, including England’s Gareth Southgate and former Brighton & Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi. Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna had been considered as the favourite, but he looks set to sign a new long-term contract at Portman Road instead.

Pochettino and Tuchel remain two of the more likely candidates to be appointed as Ten hag’s replacement, and both coaches are interested in the job.

That is according to Ben Jacobs, who told CaughtOffside: “The future of Erik ten Hag is expected to be resolved this week, and sooner rather than later. At the time of writing, the end-of-season review is being completed,” Jacobs said.

“Ten Hag wants to stay at Manchester United and is hoping for quick clarity. The longer the decision takes the more uncertainty brews.

“Ten Hag has some support from senior figures at Manchester United, including Jean-Claude Blanc.

“The whole season will be looked at. INEOS want to make the decision disappointedly and data will help them do so.

“Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel are both keen on the Manchester United job should a vacancy emerge, but the first task is to decide on Ten Hag.”
