Manchester United will offer Kobbie Mainoo a new contract following his FA Cup final heroics, but they are reportedly likely to wait until the summer transfer closes.

Mainoo, 19, scored Man Utd’s second goal as they shocked Manchester City with a 2-1 win at Wembley to claim their second piece of silverware in two years.

Erik ten Hag remains under huge pressure at Old Trafford, despite the Red Devils’ FA Cup win, with several names lined up as possible replacements after the club’s disappointing eighth place finish in the 2023-24 Premier League season.

Regardless of who is in charge next season, Man Utd are ready to build their squad around Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund and Mainoo.

The latter is currently contracted to the club until 2026 and the Red Devils are eager to tie him down to a long-term deal after his fantastic first season in senior football.

Mainoo mustered 32 appearances in all competitions during the 2023-24 campaign, scoring five goals, and he has been included in England’s preliminary squad ahead of the 2024 European Championship.

However, Man Utd are focused on securing the signatures of several key transfer targets and will likely wait until September before offering Mainoo a new contract, according to The Telegraph.

The relationship between Mainoo’s representatives and the club is reportedly strong, and Man Utd will not be rushed into presenting a new contract offer.

What has Paul Scholes said about Kobbie Mainoo?

Following Mainoo’s performance in the FA Cup final, Man Utd legend Paul Scholes took to Instagram to praise the England international.

“Read a few comparisons between me and this kid last week… don’t waste your time, he is 10 times the player I was at 19,” Scholes wrote.

“Just love the way he receives the ball, the calmness, the awareness of what’s around him and of course big goals in big games.

“This boy is special… and he’s a f****** red.”
