Graham Potter has rejected the chance to become Ajax's head coach, according to David Ornstein.

The former Chelsea boss has been out of a job for a year after getting sacked by the Blues following a dire few months in charge that left the west London giants in mid-table no-man's land.

The stint at Stamford Bridge, however, did little to diminish Potter's reputation in the game after impressive stints at Ostersund, Swansea and Brighton. Indeed, the 48-year-old has been linked with a host of jobs over the past 12 months.

Most recently, Ajax emerged as strong contenders to secure his signature. The Amsterdam giants are coming off a terrible campaign and viewed Potter as one of the people best suited to revamp this proud club and lead it into the future.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, however, Potter has now officially rejected the Eredivisie side.

What next for Potter?

The journalist reports that Potter had emerged as the leading contender for the soon-to-be-vacant job, with current boss John van 't Schip not keen to remain in charge beyond this season.

Despite being impressed by Ajax, the 48-year-old does not feel that it is the right project for him at this moment in time. Ornstein makes no mention of where the tactician could end up next.

Potter will continue to assess his options. One track is always leading to Man Utd. Erik ten Hag is under pressure and Ben Jacobs has claimed that the ex-Chelsea coach would be open to interviewing for the job.

It is not clear, however, how keen the new Man Utd hierarchy are on Potter. Bayern Munich remain in the market for a new coach, but Potter's name has thus far not been frequently associated with the Bundesliga giants.
