Romano gives Arsenal a Sesko reality check

Fabrizio Romano has dismissed suggestions that Benjamin Sesko has already agreed to join Arsenal.

The RB Leipzig striker is the talk of the town after a stunning end to the Bundesliga campaign. Sesko was unstoppable after the winter break and he finished his first season in Germany with a respectable 18 goals and two assists to his name.

This form not only saw his variable release clause jump from €50 million to €65m, but it also attracted big-name attention from England. Sesko has always been a highly-rated striker - often being compared to none other than Erling Haaland - and Premier League giants are once again firmly on his trail.

The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd are working on a potential deal for the 21-year-old and FootballTransfers revealed last month that the Gunners, in particular, view the Slovenian as their top target.

On Friday, it was claimed in the media that the Gunners had managed to reach an agreement with Sesko over a summer move, but Fabrizio Romano has now doused cold water on those claims.

Romano on Sesko to Arsenal

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano insisted that the race to sign Sesko was still very much open. "On Arsenal, every day we have a different rumour. One day, it's 'Sesko is done', one day, it's 'Osimhen is coming', one day, it's Gyokeres, it's this, it's that."

"Let Arsenal work. They are discussing internally about the striker, considering all the options they have and they will decide what they want to do, also based on budget. Arsenal don't want to spend completely crazy money, they want to spend smart money on the striker."

This comes amid fresh claims that Arsenal could pounce on Victor Osimhen, who is said to be keen on a move to north London after Romano revealed that Chelsea had cooled their interest. However, the Nigerian will command a transfer fee in the region of €130m, so deal may not fall under the category of 'smart money.'
