Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has returned to being a leading target for Arsenal as the Gunners grow frustrated with the lack of response to their wage offer for Spanish international Martin Zubimendi, FootballTransfers has been told.

We had revealed before that neither Arsenal nor Manchester City intend to trigger the Brazil international's release clause. However, Arsenal's interest in Guimaraes has intensified in recent weeks as they look to do a deal below the £100 million which the Magpies set in his contract last year.

Newcastle's financial problems could force them to entertain offers for the maestro, including player-plus-cash deals, especially if the release clause is not met.

Sources suggest that Newcastle might be open to such an arrangement given their necessity to balance the books and not get stung by Premier League Profit and Sustainability rules.

What players will leave Arsenal?

Arsenal have several players potentially leaving the Emirates this summer, such as Oleksandr Zinchenko, Emile Smith Rowe, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Eddie Nketiah, and Thomas Partey.

These players could be valuable additions for Newcastle's manager, Eddie Howe, in the upcoming Premier League season, amend the club may look to offer the side one or two of those names as a way of bringing down the overall price.

Signing a player of Guimaraes' calibre would significantly enhance Arsenal's squad, particularly if the Gunners can include a structured payment which Arsenal have done with many signings in the past.
