Chelsea face an important summer in the transfer market as they look to improve their squad further and appoint a replacement for Mauricio Pochettino.

Article continues under the video

The Argentine joined the Blues last summer, however he lasted just 11 months in charge and left by mutual consent on 21 May after a post-season review meeting.

Chelsea are now on the hunt for a replacement and have identified a host of different managers as potential options.

Ipswich Town's Kieran McKenna and Leicester City's Enzo Maresca were both legitimate candidates after achieving Premier League promotion last year, while the Blues were also interested in Roberto De Zerbi and Thomas Frank.

However, it seems as though Maresca's appointment is now simply a matter of time, with the Italian quickly emerging as Chelsea's preferred choice.

Although Todd Boehly has overseen a spend of more than €1 billion on new players since arriving at the club in 2022, there has been no success to show for it, with the Stamford Bridge outfit finishing 12th in his first campaign as owner and sixth in 2023-24.

However, Chelsea continue to target a raft of promising young players, despite the evident need for more experience in the dressing room.

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen headlines Chelsea’s summer transfer targets, but the Blues are also looking at alternatives, and many other deals could well be completed in a bid to get their squad into shape.

In addition, they are also looking to sign a new centre-back following the confirmation that Thiago Silva will be leaving, while a deal is in place to sign Palmeiras wonderkid Estevao for an initial €40 million.

Our Chelsea transfer live blog brings you all the latest news surrounding the Blues, including exclusives from our own reporters as well as checking out what the other big names are saying (including the likes of Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein).

The Blues are expected to see several players come and go, and the Stamford Bridge rumour mill is already in full swing.

More on Lavia

Chelsea back Lavia

Chelsea are fully supportive of Romeo Lavia and will continue to back him despite injuries.

That's according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims the club trust his talents and aren't looking to ship the 20-year-old elsewhere.

“The stories in the press about Romeo Lavia are absolutely not true. Chelsea are very happy with his talent and skills,” the transfer guru told the Daily Briefing.

“Of course he's been unlucky with injuries but Chelsea are supporting Romeo, waiting for him, trusting his talent.

“Spreading negative stories with zero confirmation of that is not the best for the boy, there's nothing in these stories at all.”

Former Chelsea star Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink reckons Nicholas Jackson could become a £150 million player.

Brothers in arms

Inaki Williams told reporters in Spain that he believes his brother, Nico Williams, made the right call by staying at Athletic Club.

Nico was the subject of interest from Chelsea and Arsenal this summer, among others.

The Bilbao team will seek European glory in the Europa League, which begins tonight against Roma.

“It has been a very long, very hard summer. A summer of having to make decisions,"  Inaki told Sport.

"After several months, for me he has made the right decision.

“Now we have a dream to fulfil, like the whole team. There are few of us who have been lucky enough to play in European competition with Athletic and now we are going to fulfil the dream of many.”

More on Mudryk

Mudryk given ultimatum

Chelsea star Mykhailo Mudryk has been warned that he must improve if he is to remain at the club.

Enzo Maresca and Blues staff are expecting to see development in the 23-year-old, despite the fact he has only seen 61 minutes of Premier League action this season.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano says the winger switched agents in the summer but that was not to push a move.

Onyeka watch

Enzo Maresca has scouts watching Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Francis Onyeka.

The 17-year-old is a product of the Bundesliga side's youth academy, and he is been called up for Germany Under-18s on several occasions.

The versatile playmaker can operate as a central attacking midfielder, central midfielder, or left winger.

Onyeka's strengths include precise passing, vision, and excellent link-up play, something which has impressed staff at Chelsea.
