Chelsea line up sale of wonderkid to continue spending spree

Chelsea could be set for a windfall for their summer transfer budget after opening negotiations to sell one of their top youngsters to another Premier League side.

The Blues are operating under tight financial constraints after spending more than €1 billion on players since Todd Boehly’s purchase of the club in 2022.

Consequently, the club are looking to cash in on youngsters and academy prospects in order to continue their extravagant spending, with a new potential transfer now on the table for Chelsea.

According to Fabrizio Romano, newly-promoted Ipswich are looking to permanently sign Omari Hutchinson after the 20-year-old spent last season on loan with them.

Hutchinson grabbed 16 goal contributions from right-wing to lead Ipswich to Premier League promotion and the Jamaican international could become the club’s record signing, with Chelsea valuing the youngster at €26 million (£22m).

Having initially been released by Chelsea’s academy as a nine-year-old, Hutchinson re-joined the Blues in 2022 from Arsenal for a nominal fee, although the Gunners are thought to be entitled to a portion of any profit made on their former youngster.

Hutchinson remains highly-rated at Stamford Bridge but the pathway to first team contention appears difficult, with the likes of Cole Palmer and Noni Madueke ahead of him in the pecking order.

The right-wing role will only become more crowded for Hutchinson in the future due to the impending arrivals of South American wonderkids Kendry Paez and Estevao, who will join Chelsea when they turn 18 in 2025.

The sale would also allow Chelsea to continue their spending spree, with Leicester midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall the latest player to be linked with a move to West London.

Chelsea also wish to sign another striker this summer after imminent arrival of Barcelona wonderkid Marc Guiu, while negotiations continue with Boca Juniors over young defender Aaron Anselmino.
