Romano delivers Chelsea fans good news with Nico Williams message after Olise embarrassment

Chelsea suffered a major transfer market disappointment on Friday as it was announced that long-time target Michael Olise had escaped them – but Fabrizio Romano has dropped some positive news for Blues fans.

The Stamford Bridge side had seemed to be in pole position to sign Olise, yet the former France U21 star is now poised to move to Bundesliga outfit Bayern Munich.

FootballTransfers had exclusively revealed that Olise’s release fee was above the €60 million previously reported and that FCB were one of the teams interested in signing the 22-year-old.

The swift reversal in the transfer, however, had not been foreseen.

Nevertheless, Romano has dropped some positive news for Chelsea, suggesting that Nico Williams could become a target.

“After Michael Olise deal collapsed, Chelsea are still keen on bringing in two more attackers in the summer transfer window,” Romano tweeted.

“Enzo Maresca, expected to have at least one more striker and one more winger.

“In addition to this, Chelsea will soon sign Estevao for summer 2025.”

The Daily Telegraph reports 18-year-old Omari Kellyman is a player the Blues could target, with Aston Villa valuing the youngster around €23.6 million (£20m).

Chelsea in for Nico Williams

Chelsea could move for Spain Euro 2024 star Nico Williams, Romano says.

“Several clubs have asked for information on Nico Williams in the recent months, even before the Euros,” he added.

“Chelsea had him on shortlist already last summer then they wanted Cole Palmer; Arsenal and Liverpool discussed Nico few months ago.

“Barcelona keep Nico on their shortlist.”

Nico Williams is available for around €58m due to a release clause in his Athletic Club deal, yet the indications are that he wants to remain in Spain.

Barca may still be tracking him, but their poor financial position makes a deal difficult to trigger.

As such, Chelsea are right to remain vigilant on his case.
