Fabrizio Romano says that any potential transfer of Jeremie Frimpong to Arsenal - or Liverpool - will not be decided until after Euro 2024.

Frimpong is one of the hottest properties on the summer transfer market as he has a release clause in his contract of just €40m.

According to Bild, Frimpong is likely to decide to move on from Leverkusen this summer.

There have been numerous reports that Arsenal have chosen Frimpong as their first target for the right back position this summer. Liverpool have also been linked, with new manager Arne Slot a fan of his Dutch countryman.

But Romano says that there will be no talks until after Euro 2024, with Frimpong in the Netherlands squad at the tournament.

What did Romano say?

“We’ve seen Jeremie Frimpong linked with Arsenal in recent times, but also more recently with Liverpool,” Romano said.

“Still, I have no update on Frimpong now, because he will not decide anything on his future during the Euros – this is the current plan.

“The release clause is there and valid, but Frimpong wants to focus on the Euros now so the situation is currently quiet.”

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is a big fan of Frimpong and was also interested in signing him during the January transfer market.

Arteta is keen to sign a more natural wing-back ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Ben White has often been utilised at right-back but is naturally a centre back. Takehiro Tomiyasu is not seen as the ideal solution and is often injured, while last summer’s signing Jurrien Timber missed most of last season with a long-term injury and is regarded as better at centre back, too.

Frimpong was a youth team player at Man City from 2010 to 2019 before joining Celtic for two seasons.

He moved to Leverkusen in 2021 and played a key role in the team’s historic 2023-24 season as they won the Bundesliga unbeaten, took the DFB Pokal and also were runners-up in the Europa League.

He had 14 goals and 10 assists in all competitions for Leverkusen last season.
